Manchester University Project Unity - Building
Study - February 2005 |
|
This project forms part of the final thesis
year. My investigations into the overall masterplanning in Yr6 Sem
1 are carried through into this project. I have also been hoping
to expand on the theories set out in my dissertation regarding the
Strategies and Tactics in the remodelling of existing buildings. |
|
I was very pleased to get a mark of
75% for this project. The two main images were also displayed at
a conference in the G-Mex centre in October 2005. I am hoping that
Sally (my tutor) will eventually forward on some photographs of the
displayed work. |
|
On a related note the Maths Tower has now been
demolished which I think is a shame in both a sculptural and urbanistic
sense. John McAslan and Partners are currently the Architects designing
the replacement building. |

The above images show
the concept for remodelling the Maths Tower (which is located near
the historic Owens College). Informed by the existing form and structure
of the maths tower the red surface wraps the building to create containers
of space. The wrap helps transform the unsuitable existing space into
useable space. |
