Historical Background

Oswald is currently located in a a home brew campaign called Dragonstone. He has adventured for a long period of time and has been raised, with his companions, to a new pantheon of gods whom are based in the Vale of Dragonstone. He fulfils a role as the demi-god of Curiosity, Knowledge and Magic. Oswald is the preferred avatar of this deity. He appears as a small, absent minded man of average height and average build and usually eclipsed by his 'companion' Nestor the Gunderman. Nestor is a Barbarian guardian who has attDAMAGE / ATTACK: 1-4+3 ached himself to the mage.

The deity currently lives in Dragonstone University and occupies the post of Dean. Oswald set up the university using alot of 'appropriated' funds he appropriated during his early years as a bard, and before he was raised to the demi-god status. These funds also help support the Council of Wizardry in Dragonstone, this organisation regulates and supports magicusers in the area. Oswald is the Lord High Wizard of this organisation.

Oswald started his career as a Bard in the city of Phlann which was situarted on the coast in an altered Forgotten Realms. At this time he was wandering the Realms in search of a way to restore his parents collapsed empire. As the last prince he controlled a large intellegence organisation which was slowly gathering funds and allies to their cause. Problematically Oswald was a typical bard, a jack of all trades, who never stayed in one place for long and was difficult to track down, due to this the intellegence organisation collapsed 600 years after the empire had crumbled into the history books.

Oddly Oswald had not aged much in this time and in Dragonstone it was eventually discovered that he was surviving so long due to a longer history. In a random visit to Dragonstone he discovered his portable hole was in fact a set of rooms, this discovery was aided by the companions overthrowing an evil magicuser called Knellict. Oswald had taken the magicusers enchanted cloak which actived a secret door in his portable hole. Within the secret rooms he discovered a library and instructions on how to prelong life. He also discovered a letter from his 'father' Knellict instructing him on his heritage.

According to the letter Oswald was one of a line of magicusers, desending from a demi-god, who extended their life by cloning a willing subject and then inhabiting their body. This process was interupted when Oswald was created by Knellict, the previous clone, co-existing. This created a disjointed individual within Oswald. Usually a clone would survive for approximately 1000 years before a replacement was required. However, in a bout of impulsivness he attempted to time travel back in time to save the Barons daughter who was murdered by the local grandfather of assassins. This time travel caused two things. One it caused the Barons daughter to be kidnapped and eventually murdered. Two the clone body started to degrade.

Upon returning to the present Oswald tried the cloning process and survived to reclaim his demi-god status.

Main Magic Items Back to top
Oswalds Portable House

This item is a set of eight rooms running around a central core. The rooms consist of two libraries, an observatory, laboratory, kitchen, bedroom, dining room and lounge. The lounge is the access point for the rest of the rooms. The other rooms can be accessed by using the magical cloak to open the sealed secret door.

Oswald has accumulated many book and magical items over the centuries and all are stored here.

The entrance to this set of rooms can be either a solid looking chest or a small silken cloth. If it apears as a chest then it is totally imovable by normal means.

Amulet of Gaxx

This powerful artefact looks like an amulet with a single gem set into a simple honding. The gem has nine sides which activate the following powers:

A) Create food and water - 1/day
B) Ultravision - When wearing
C) Fly - At will
D) Dimension Door 2/day
E) Teleport without error - 2/day
F) Age 90+ years
G) Change Alignment - Permanent
H) Summon Greater God - 1/year
I) Doubles weapon damage - When wearing

Rust Monster Whip + 4 An interesting odity aquired in Ravenloft. This magical whip was constructed using a rust mosters tail. It has the same properties of a normal whip. When a metallic surface is struck the metal needs to save as though it had been struck by a live rust moster's tail.

Robe of the Arch Magi This item is exactly the same as the item described on page 152 of the Dungeon Masters Guide (1st Edition)

Zagig's Spell Components This case apears to be nothing more than a plain satchel. However, when a mage reaches into the bag the spell components they require are summoned to the casters hand.

Ring of Wizardry This ring double the number of 1st level spells Oswald is able to memorise.

Ring of Sustainence This ring is worn constantly so the avatar Oswald can research longer in his laboratory. This is achieved by reducing the required amount of sleep the mage requires before being able to memorise new spells.

Crystal Ball This clear crystal helps Oswald see and hear what others are saying. So far he has not discovered any limitations in distance to this devise. As he can also cast spells and speak through the cystal ball it is very handy for him to pass information to his followers/retainers.
